Hey Girl, Don’t Put a full Stop to Your Career after Marriage
Many women redefine their lives post-marriage, transitioning from working professionals to homemakers.
They define their life goal in activities like creating dance reels, visiting cafes, and enjoying time with friends and family.
These activities are undoubtedly fulfilling and joyful, but quitting a career can sometimes stem from societal norms or the belief that marriage marks the end of one’s professional journey.
As a 42-year-old working woman and mother, I find it hard to imagine giving up my career. It also makes me bound to think that nowadays it’s a trend that young girls aged 22-25 don’t bother about their careers.
My work is not just about earning money; it’s my passion and identity in a society that is still male-dominated.
My 11-year-old son often tells me, “Mamma, never quit your job.” I want to become like you, and those words fill me with pride and determination.
Through my work, I’ve earned respect, recognition, and the ability to inspire others, including my child.
I started my career late, at 36. I regret that I could not begin 12 years before that?! I am happy it happened to me later than never, and maybe I value the opportunity.
Imagine how a mother of a 5-year-old kid, at 36, could even think of starting her corporate life! I value my career because I earned it late; before that, I could only dream of it.
My present status quo motivates me to push myself further and achieve my career goals. I am thankful to my company, iVIPANAN, and my leaders, Bhautik Sheth & Shruti Sheth, for believing in me and, giving me the opportunity to lead the learning and development vertical of the company.
A career for a married girl isn’t just about earning a pay cheque; it’s beyond that. It’s about your existence, self-respect, independence, and pride.
Your work gives you an identity beyond being a wife or a mother. It reminds you of your skills, talents, and capabilities.
Financial and emotional independence are crucial for every individual, regardless of marital status, and a career allows you to stand on your own feet. Additionally, your dedication and hard work set an example for your children and society.
When kids see their mothers pursuing their passions and excelling professionally, it shapes their perception of gender roles and inspires them to dream big.
A career also stimulates intellectual development and helps one grow. It provides opportunities to learn, adapt, and evolve.
Marriage is a beautiful part of life but shouldn’t be seen as the end of a woman’s ambitions.
Marriage doesn’t mean giving up on your dreams. Work with your partner to create a balanced life where both personal and professional goals are valued.
Learn to manage time effectively to juggle work, family, and personal time, remembering that it’s about quality, not quantity.
If you’re passionate about something outside your career, integrate it into your life without abandoning your professional journey.
Even if you take a break, stay connected with your industry through courses, networking, or remote work. Your break shouldn’t last forever. Complete it quickly and return to the workplace.
Surround yourself with people who support and encourage your aspirations, be they your spouse, friends, or colleagues.
Your life is not just about marriage, children, or fun. These are significant aspects, but they shouldn’t define your entire existence.
You have dreams, potential, and a purpose beyond societal expectations.
By continuing to pursue your career, you’re not just working for yourself but creating a legacy for your future children, setting a benchmark for others, and breaking stereotypes.
To all the Gen Z girls out there, you have the power to balance it all. Don’t let societal norms dictate your choices.
Embrace your journey, keep chasing your dreams, and remember that life after marriage can be a beautiful blend of love, family, and professional success.
Your career is more than just a job; it’s your story, identity, and contribution to the world. Let it inspire others, including your children, to dream big and live a life of purpose.
